CONGRESS PASSES 1-MONTH MEDICARE PHYSICIAN PAYMENT PATCH
Today the House followed the Senate in passing a short-term patch to delay the scheduled Medicare physician payment cuts. This 1-month, $1 billion patch will delay the 23% cut scheduled for December 1 through the end of this year and will retain for one month the 2.2% increase in reimbursement approved earlier this year. This patch will not fix the additional 6% cut scheduled for January 1, 2011 but will provide members time to work on a longer-term fix before the year ends. Bipartisan discussions are currently taking place between the House, Senate and White House on a possible 12-month physician payment relief package for 2011.
